Exciting upcoming releases | October 2014

Every month I mention what book releases I'm most excited for and why and this month isn't any different. It seems all of the books are being released this upcoming month!

The Blood of Olympus - Rick Riordan (October 7)
Heroes of Olympus #5
Though the Greek and Roman crewmembers of the Argo II have made progress in their many quests, they still seem no closer to defeating the earth mother, Gaea. Her giants have risen—all of them—and they're stronger than ever. They must be stopped before the Feast of Spes, when Gaea plans to have two demigods sacrificed in Athens. She needs their blood—the blood of Olympus—in order to wake. The demigods are having more frequent visions of a terrible battle at Camp Half-Blood. The Roman legion from Camp Jupiter, led by Octavian, is almost within striking distance. Though it is tempting to take the Athena Parthenos to Athens to use as a secret weapon, the friends know that the huge statue belongs back on Long Island, where it "might" be able to stop a war between the two camps. The Athena Parthenos will go west; the Argo II will go east. The gods, still suffering from multiple personality disorder, are useless. How can a handful of young demigods hope to persevere against Gaea's army of powerful giants? As dangerous as it is to head to Athens, they have no other option. They have sacrificed too much already. And if Gaea wakes, it is game over.
This is probably the most anticipated YA release of the month. I haven't gotten around to reading The House of Hades (#5) yet but it's on my TBR! I have been collecting this series in Dutch so it'll be another couple of months before I can get The Blood of Olympus. But that doesn't mean I'm not excited it's coming out this October!

The Young Elites - Marie Lu (October 7)
The Young Elites #1
I am tired of being used, hurt, and cast aside. Adelina Amouteru is a survivor of the blood fever. A decade ago, the deadly illness swept through her nation. Most of the infected perished, while many of the children who survived were left with strange markings. Adelina’s black hair turned silver, her lashes went pale, and now she has only a jagged scar where her left eye once was. Her cruel father believes she is a malfetto, an abomination, ruining their family’s good name and standing in the way of their fortune. But some of the fever’s survivors are rumored to possess more than just scars—they are believed to have mysterious and powerful gifts, and though their identities remain secret, they have come to be called the Young Elites. Teren Santoro works for the king. As Leader of the Inquisition Axis, it is his job to seek out the Young Elites, to destroy them before they destroy the nation. He believes the Young Elites to be dangerous and vengeful, but it’s Teren who may possess the darkest secret of all. Enzo Valenciano is a member of the Dagger Society. This secret sect of Young Elites seeks out others like them before the Inquisition Axis can. But when the Daggers find Adelina, they discover someone with powers like they’ve never seen. Adelina wants to believe Enzo is on her side, and that Teren is the true enemy. But the lives of these three will collide in unexpected ways, as each fights a very different and personal battle. But of one thing they are all certain: Adelina has abilities that shouldn’t belong in this world. A vengeful blackness in her heart. And a desire to destroy all who dare to cross her. It is my turn to use. My turn to hurt.
The Young Elites sounds similar to Legend although I get the feeling this new series will be both fantasy and dystopian. I don't know what to expect from this book or when I'll get around to reading it but I do have high expectations.

Talon - Julie Kagawa (October 28)
Talon #1
Long ago, dragons were hunted to near extinction by the Order of St. George, a legendary society of dragon slayers. Hiding in human form and growing their numbers in secret, the dragons of Talon have become strong and cunning, and they're positioned to take over the world with humans none the wiser. Ember and Dante Hill are the only sister and brother known to dragonkind. Trained to infiltrate society, Ember wants to live the teen experience and enjoy a summer of freedom before taking her destined place in Talon. But destiny is a matter of perspective, and a rogue dragon will soon challenge everything Ember has been taught. As Ember struggles to accept her future, she and her brother are hunted by the Order of St. George. Soldier Garret Xavier Sebastian has a mission to seek and destroy all dragons, and Talon's newest recruits in particular. But he cannot kill unless he is certain he has found his prey: and nothing is certain about Ember Hill. Faced with Ember's bravery, confidence and all-too-human desires, Garret begins to question everything that the Order has ingrained in him: and what he might be willing to give up to find the truth about dragons.
I wasn't the biggest fan of Kagawa's Iron Fey series but I'm still willing to try this new series out. Mainly because of the dragons that are in it.

Other books that are coming out are Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater (The Raven Cycle #3) and In The Afterlight by Alexandra Bracken (The Darkest Minds #3). I haven't started The Raven Cycle yet and for some reason never continued with The Darkest Minds.

What new releases are you excited for?

  1. BLUE LILY LILY BLUE. That is what October is about for me. I'm on the edge of my seat. And then it's In the Afterlight (read the second one! It triumphs the first book which I wasn't really sold on) BUT I am quite desperate to read The Young Elites as well. I've heard it's all about the grey area, that one which I'm super pumped about.

    1. Good to hear that Never Fade is better than the first book. I enjoyed The Darkest Minds a lot but since it's just another dystopian I think I lost interest in continuing the series. We'll see how it goes!
