Genre: urban fantasy

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder― much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing―not even a smear of blood―to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?
This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know...
Give me a second to wrap my mind around what I just read. Holy moly. The only thing that crossed through my mind when I was finished is: why didn’t I read this years ago?!
It’s not just because they are turning these books into movies now, that I started reading them. It’s because everyone seems to love this and I didn’t understand why. I’m glad I read it even though it wasn’t in English. I just couldn’t wait any longer. The minute you start these books you are swept off your feet. Seriously, there is not one moment that nothing happens. It’s plot twist after plot twist. Near the end there was no character left that I fully trusted apart from Clary. No one is what they seem and nothing is what you think it is, it’s absolutely mind-blowing. Some things you see coming, others are a complete surprise. It’s very fast-paced and action packed which I love. It’s also hilarious at times, it literally made me laugh out loud. I expected Valentine to be more intimidating and evil and scary but you know, maybe in the sequels?
Anyways, I recommend this series to every fantasy and YA lover. It really is a must-read and I gave it 5/5 stars on Goodreads!
